How to treat your hair like you treat your skin: a Luxe Routine

We all know by now how external stressors can wreak havoc on our skin; hair is the same. We know we should apply sunscreen on our skin and we usually wash our face everyday. Yet we treat our hair differently, why!? Your skin and hair is what we wear every single day.

We understand that we need to moisturize our skin, well, our hair too.
When something isn’t right with our skin we seek out treatment, but yet, not for our hair.

I like to say to treat your hair like a delicate fabric, silk. It needs to be treated with gentle care. Our hair needs moisture. If you have breakage or anything else that is troubling you, it’s time to see your stylist and get their recommendations. It may need protein, protein and moisture or more moisture. Your scalp may be needing an adjustment in product. It’s best to get their professional recommendation rather than trying to diagnose it yourself and creating more issues.

You wouldn’t use a hot iron on silk so DON’T use it on your hair. Keep the heat turned down. Always use a heat protectant before any hot tools. Don’t over wash and strip essential nutrients from your hair. Use a professional shampoo, conditioner and styling products your stylist prescribed for your specific hair type and goals.

We are also a fan of silk or satin pillowcases. Less friction on your hair…and skin. When combing/brushing through your hair always start at the bottom and gently work your way up. Aggressively working through your hair will cause breakage and weak spots.

Professional products use higher grade ingredients and less water and cheaper fillers. This means using less product to get desired results. We say less is more. Start by using a small amount of product and you can adjust from there.

When you see your stylist next, have a conversation about your hair goals and issues. She will recommend products and get you on a path of shiny, beautiful, bouncy hair that you’ll love to look at.
